View Full Version : Ads by Google
Hi there guys, im trialling Google ads at the moment to help with site running costs, it takes a good wedge of my paypacket each month (equates to around about 3-5%) which I don't mind as its all fun but a little bit of support wouldn't go amiss.
Anyway I've put 2 non-obtrusive Google Ads on the site unobtrusive as in they don't sit there flashing at you, and I get a certain amount of money from them when they are clicked and every so many views.
I've made a selectable child theme of the 3 forum themes available which allows you to turn these ads off if they really get to be too much but I'd like for you to try and stick it out. Any constructive comments are welcome!!
Cheers
Graham
By the way, at the moment, they are the semi-default colours and I am going to change them to match each theme.

very pretyful zeph =)
They're fine imo, nice and unobtrusive; the irritating ads are banner adds and popups.
Is there a limit on click throughs to stop us spamming them Zeph?

Yeah, google ads remove alot of accounts where the users just click daft, which is a pain. Probably a good idea to delete this topic, or move it into a private section, if they see alot of clicks in the space of a few seconds.
With the ads, great idea, use them myself, but I always found a good way to turn them off, was to allow people to sign up for a paid subscription, for a small fee, then they can have banner free sites, means you get some back etc :)
Zeph, how much you pay a month for your server? I am on £100 for mine, but using shit loads of bandwidth, getting 10 millions hits a month roughly
I pay roughly £25/month for mine

DD has no private jets and sports cars.
He just borrows Zephs...
:D
seriously- noone makes anything from LA more than a couple of pints per annum.
LoL the Money is going straight into a private fund for paying Web Server rent, not toward the game servers as they are supported by res slots :)

Firefox doesn't stop the ads from showing. I think Zeph has just worked them well into the choosen theme. On the navy one is looks just like writing.
Edit: I feel like a right tawt, that post was aimed at the last post on page 1.
