I see the new anime thread is quite populated and the manga thread is rather sad and lonely so as a fan of manga I thought i'd liven it up^^
Dont get me wrong I watch tons of anime too but ive long moved on from Akira, GiTS etc etc. Things I mostly watch now-a-days are the mainstream TV anime, Naruto, Bleach, Yu Yu hakusho, Prince of Tennis and Slam Dunk etc but the one thing that really gets to me is fillers! I hate them and thats probably why I'll always prefer the manga. Most animes that derive from manga also tend to deviate from the original in some way or another which is also kinda annoying. Anyway heres a list of where I get my stuff from:

Manga are japanese comic books and anime are japanese cartoons on tv.
I prefer anime as I'm lazy to read and if I would import them it would be very expensive for me.

I don't mind either. Some stuff is better read and some better watched. I have both although I've kinda fallen out with current anime and manga.... I only watch Naruto now....

In Japan, manga is very popular. Even more popular than animes and movies. Alot of animes, anime movies and live action movies derive from mangas.
so you might have seen it from there, that or its had crappy translations.

well i loooooooooove bleach, never really watched anything else, but i saw this dvd/magazine advertised on t.v. i think it's released every 2 weeks and on them it's compilations of anime, Just saw an ad for this. Like alot of collector magazines series, each issue will come with a DVD from the Manga library. Highlighted titles include Ghost in the Shell (which comes with the first issue), End of Evangelion (which is just listed as Evangelion and said as Eve-an-jelly-on at that) and Akira.

to answer your question MANGA is the name for japanise comics, ANIME is the name used a general cover all for animated show/films
MANGA is a name of a company that sells anime in the USA and UK, they tend to use the term MANGA when they mean ANIME so they can self promote
years ago westerners thought of japanise anime as manga but have now learnt the difference

if you watch Evangelion in US english they do pronounce it a jelly, tho i did read on a forum somewhere thats the correct pronoucation of the word.
i bought the first DVD of this today, even tho i own every Ghost in the Shell DVD and am waitting on the 3rd film to be dubed and sold in the UK
my reason for buying this is that i will subscribe to it so i can get some extras and i'll probly end up giving my little bro my DVDs to watch
/ontopic
i watch anime but i too also like to read some mangas
tho i do tend to buy my manga as i like to read hard copy rather than trying to read it on my monitor
atm i'm reading Battle Royal, GTO and the odd time i'll pick up Naruto.
i'm also trying to get my local FP to stock more of Tokyo Tribes, they only have 1-3 and i seen 1-7 in dublin

GTO's a complete classic. Got all 1-25 in 3 different languages...75 volumes in total. Ive currently stopped buying Initial D in english because I cheated and went and read all the chinese/japanese ones. They only manga that im desperate to buy now is GetBackers! Very funny and well written/drawn manga but likemost the anime isnt great. I d/l Naruto every week and the manga is pretty decent right this moment...shame about the anime though but hey the fillers finish in feb and part2 will start! I cant wait its gonna be so good but im wondering if they gonna keep the prime time slot of Thurs evening in Japan cos part2 is really dark and bloody. Be interested how they will censor it.
Bleach anime is a bit meh atm. The Bounto arc will finish in the next 2 episodes and will carry on with the original story in feb also but the manga is pretty boring and strung out right now.
Korea has some really good manga being produced right now. One of my favourites is Soul to Seoul but its only 5 volumes.

Its pretty ancient for me^^ but its a massive shame how the whole thing ended though. One anime that is much better than the manga is Death Note. I love the story and the animation is one of the best you'll see for a TV series. I guess I prefer action types in manga format and the thrillers/horrors in anime?

Its from Azumanga Daioh, its not got a main storyline, its more of a feel good life story anime/manga similar to Aria.
I prefer manga, it has more emotion to me and when i start reading i cant put it down until ive finished it.
