You wont find a good free MMO you will find poorly made, no content big ridden and big piles of crap.
If you want to get into mmo's you have to pay. EVE, LOTR, WOW, and warhammer. are all the market leaders, coincidence that you have to pay for them? i think not :)

the only paid per month MMORPG i have played and enjoyed was FFXI but these games are serious time sinks due to the fact they are getting money from you per month
i dislike the time you need to play to get your moneys worth..
anyway this is so far the best free MMORPG i have come across

OK. So say I pay £8.99/month and get, say... 7 hours a week (1 hour a day average - I don't play it that much but I could), that's 28 or so hours a month of play time - roughly 3 pints of beer out on the town - and that wouldn't last long with me :). I know where I'd rather spend my money :)

Well, we had a discussion, playing wow keeps me from going out say one night a week, i would spend 50 quid on a night out, i pay 8.99 a month. I save money from playing this game. I dont know about time consuming.
I can pick the game up, go into a raid finish raiding and log out, and do the same, not much time needed really. unless your a "hardcore" player.
I currently run a "casual" guild with some loonies no time restrictions on players and all that jazz.
its not as bad as people think.

meh tbh its what you like and enjoy, the different options out there all give something different to play, Cabal is quite fun and i played some rappelz too, but Guild Wars is my main stay for some good pvp action
