yo dudes.... was wondering, from your own experience, what do you find is the best way to copy a dvd... either to onto a svcd, or a dvd.

as far as i know (i havent really read much on this yet) you rip the dvd to your puters hdd.... then convert, and burn....

anyone got some advice on best way to do this?!

Well I just bought myself a burner last week and I used DVDXcopy to copy a DVD to a DVD which I ofcourse "owned" :D and it worked perfect. No ripping and stuff, no writing to harddisk, just a copy on the fly and it all fit on 1 dvd too !

Ripper told me to use this program and it worked very smoothly, so I can really advice u to use this program.

I used to use that Xcopy but now i prefer a program called DCS (Dvd copy suite). This is similar in the fact it fits it onto one disk, but this program basically compresses everything (So you keep all the menus extras etc). It's really really easy to use as well and quick (considering it's compressing everything). The quality of the picture etc is fantastic.

And as Raydox says, WinDVD Ctreator 2 is my fave for converting all those Avi home movies I have.

I use SmartRipper or DVD Decrypter to rip whit then I use DVD2one to make the file small so I can burn it, works fine I think (but I am a beginner whit this so I dont know if it the best way to do it.)

I got this DVDXCopy Platinum v3.2.1 after using earlier version, and it really is the muts nuts!

I only have one dvd drive (my writer), so I cant burn on the fly. Anyway, this version is great as it allows 2 methods similar to nero (simple and also advanced)

I only bother with simple.

I insert the dvd i want backing up
hit the green START button
it rips the lot (menus extras etc) at the best compression to my HD
I then fire up nero and burn it.

I find it simple :P

holla if you want to try the "demo".

Well, if it's a DVD that's already been "Backed up" then you can just use something like Nero to copy it. If it's a retail DVD (IE bought from a shop) that you wish to backup then you need to use software that will shrink it to the correct size (most retail DVD's use Dual Layer disks, and they are to dear to justify using) and will get around the copy protection system.

For this I use CloneDVD (this will shrink and burn the DVD) and Slysoft's AnyDVD (This runs in the background and will strip the DVD of copy protection, region encoding, Macrovision etc). As usual, there are an awful lot of choices in software for doing this, and it boils down to what you find the easiest to use and which suits your needs. As for getting hold of said software, I've seen it on a "Group" somewhere...

lanki

www.dvdrhelp.com for all your ripping shrinking and backup needs.

single layer disk just use dvddecryptor read as iso on to hard drive then write iso from hard drive to your dvd.

If its a dual layer disk then run it through dvd shrink to bring it down to 4.5 gig size then use nero to burn easy peasy.

converting avi to dvd tmpgenc slow but woth it then use tmpgenc dvd authoring software to make in to dvd and burn the iso. again easy peasy
