View Full Version : Behaviour on the server
The 1.6 Admin Team
29th December '04, 11:34
About a year ago we here at LA asked some regulars to go and play elsewhere. These people were generally a nuisance on the server and didn't fit with the friendly atmosphere we try to create in our community.
It has become apparent again that we have gathered another batch of regulars who are bringing the good, friendly vibes of the server down, and it has been decided that if this current trend continues then we will be having a clear out again.
The biggest problem we have at the moment is swearing. During the day many people have children who also play here, or their kids are watching, and we would like you to refrain from swearing during the day ie. before 10pm. The other problem we have is general abusive behaviour. This will not be tolerated at any time, and you may or may not get a warning before being kicked (or banned.)
Happy fragging

Aye...I confess :p
I've been swearing a lot lately. You guys should know :p
But but....It really feels good to type something out of frustration when I die.
Have any of you got good original suggestions?

I admit to the odd foul word. l will mend my ways. Might I suggest that a lot has to do with frustration from the griefers etc. With reduced admin plugins and little ability to kick rascists, griefers this leads to frustration. Not that I'm excusing it but I feel that it should improve.....

The above post is actually aimed at the 1.6 server rather than the Source server.
There is little we can do with the source server at the moment due to (as you rightly point out) a lack of admin plug ins. Once we have some working plug ins, the source server will be cleaned up to the standards of our 1.6 server.

I don't want to get into an arguement about it but the game is rated for 15+. Obviously there are hundreds of ways that kids below that age can get on the game or see whats going on but we're not living in the 1800's here, kids learn 99% of these words at primary school. It's perfectly fair to ask people to keep it to a minimum but to ban nice/good/friendly player just because swearing is in their normal vocabulary and they let slip once is a bit harsh.
I don't understand how someone swearing, in a general conversation sours the friendly vibes of the server :s. If its abusive or towards another player then ok but if they're telling a story then I can't see how it lowers the friendly atmosphere.
Edit: I understand that DD and its perfectly fair for you guys to ask for a little consideration from others while on the server. I just don't think we're gonna corrupt any children if they hear the odd swear word on the server but by the tone of the post we may lose well liked players. I don't consider myself someone that swears a lot on the mic as I'm not one for using it really so this isn't me being worried about getting banned for swearing. I just don't wanna see some of our "bad apples" go :) I may have to work on the abusive behavior though :thwack:
End of Edit:)

wait until you have children then Pate and then you will know where we are coming from.
My children know what is right and wrong and I do not want them hearing swearing from those on the mic.

Fair enough.
Everyone knows for himself if he should feel appealed by this serious request.
I know for myself that I have a very short temper and shout and type much abusive vocabulary when loosing (even though I don't actually mean the stuff I say).
I have been there (banned for months last year) and I didn't like it at all. So I will change my behaviour and contribute to the friendly and civilized atmosphere on loony.
I wouldn't want to be banned cause I like playing here too much, and so do you, don't you??

Regardless of whether you like swearing or not- a ban on swearing encourages a more friendly and less aggressive atmosphere on the server.
Admins have said nay and If for one fully support that f***ing decision!

Having a 9 year old I can only agree with this stance,I have enough problems explaining "They're in the underpants" on dust, without her hearing effing and blinding and all that.:)

I know how you all feel and how frustrating it is for you all in game, we admins feel like we want to let rip too but we refrain as some of us have younger children and quite rightly you say its 15+ but you know full well that half of the cs nation are and will continue to be children of 10 yrs upwards and i have to say it my sons all enjoy a good game of cs and they too have picked up unsavoury words that get them banned from playing by me.
As long as we have a watershed then alls fine and dandy but during the daytime there are a lot of unsavoury words that even i dont care to repeat said in jest but nonetheless they are distasteful and should we really lower our standards to incorporate such language in society as a whole. Many words that are deemed acceptable to day were considered downright filth back in the day lol
I dont consider myself old but lets face it in todays society a lot has let slip with rules and regulations so far thats why that crime is at an all time high.
Oh and put yourselves in our shoes pretend you have kids and practice what you say on the server to them and see how it tastes in your mouth.
ANNIEBIGGUNS over and out sorry bout the preaching

I agree with this, although I don't play during the day atm when I was a few wks back I noticed a lot of swearing (and was occasionally guilty myself) at times, especially when u had the obligatory camper or two. I think a watershed is the best way, along with removing special's binds about all things anal (i.e. [Quite]) :p
P.S. Can we still say fo findy???

This is good for the server as a whole, when the watershed was enforced before it was alot more of a friendly atmosphere. Theres no real need to curse like that anyway, it can be funny for a cheap shot or shock value. But thats all it is, surely loonies can think of something funny without the swears.
Just my opinion don't shoot me :D.

I sometimes swear over the mic during the day but its only the odd word and is never abusive to anyone. If i feel the need to swear i just dont press the speach button. Simple really. And im pretty sure iv only ever sworn in text once or twice.
I agree with JonO that enforcing the watershed should do the trick.

I don't swear on loony, I don't even speak, so I don't think i'll be banned. Talking without swears is possible, and it contributes to a nice atmosphere.
Don't ban me :p

I agree totally. There are a group of "regulars" who think they are untouchable. I was baby sitting for my mate and his 6 year old daughter was watching me play. I had to leave the game due to constant swearing over the mic and text.
Had to get it off my chest. Cheers

Maybe it is a bit late to reply to this one, but the topic is always relevant.
I agree with the fact that the abuse do take absurd forms from time to time. I would be happy to hear and read fewer swearing all together although they dont bother me too much. Its the abuse itself that is annoying.
But what I dont understand in this is that no one seems to have a problem with their kids playing a game which circulates around the importance of blowing eachothers heads off. Never mind having to explain what the swearing is all about. Just do it the same way you do when you explain the importance of headshots...
I agree on the swearing, but this aint Super Mario, you know...

(Sorry to reply to this oldish post but i only just back from hols...)
I totally agree with no swearing during the day, and i don't think i ever swear much anyway. And also, I've learnt my lesson about being abusive on the server (sorry BFR), and have been well behaved since. LA is all about being fun and friendly and it rules so much.
Btw, can we still us abbreviations like ffs during the day? its cool if we can't.
Peace

ok i know that i am not around very much anymore but i was an admin in this community before i left and as some of you know i am an admin elsewhere now. the swearing ban is a good thing for the whole community and we enforce it on our servers for the same reasons. all of you play here because you enjoy the atmosphere on the servers so try to help out and keep it that way. i also feel that some peoples names need to be changed that have any obscene meanings to them. remember that as said that a lot of younger people play this game AND they also go onto these forums. so how about applying the same rules to the forums as well. this is not a go at you scooter m8 but just looking at your sig with the word w**kers in it is not too appropriate. just my tuppence worth
