Well, I went and got one, they are bloody HUGE!!!
Bigger than my fist!!!
So there I am, happy with my purchase, until I get home that is.
***n00b alert***
I went to install said cooler when I realized that it wouldn't fit my MSI mobo.
I discovered that the mobo needed 4 holes around the socket in order for me to mount the backplate for the cooler. As far as I know only Asus boards have this unique feature ( I could be wrong of course).
So back to the shop I went, told the shop keeper about my dilemma (and no, I didn't go to PC World this time).
He was a little baffeled because it said on the packaging
'Support for LGA775, Socket 478 Prescott, K7 and K8'
It didn't state however that this was for Asus boards only (thus leading to my assumption that I could fit it to my MSI).
Alas I asked him to show me an Asus mobo that had the holes, which he did.
So now I have an Asus A7N8X-E.
I did say to the shop keeper:
'This must be the most odd reason for anybody to change their mobo, just so they can fit a new CPU cooler, innit?'
'Well it's the first time I've ever heard of it'
Got home put the PC together and all is well now.
At least I don't have to worry about my MSI catching fire anymore :)
