Newsgroups is the better of the 2 systems. But unfortunatly, I can't use Newsgroups with my ISP, so it's P2P for me.

NG require you to have access to binary newsgroups and a decent newgroup reader. Outlook express is no good.
newsbin pro is a pretty good newsreader.
As for newsfeeds, pipex and clara provide good feeds for their customers. However, you can buy a newsfeed if your provider doesnt have a good one. I think clara is £29 a year and averages a 3 day retention. Easynews is about £7pm but has around 30 days retention.
Newsgroups were around before forums. It works on the same principle. Some posts a message and you can reply to it. They may put attachments in their message and you can download them. Nowadays the attachments are spread over multiple messages and decent binary newsreaders will combine those attachements.
The postive thing is that you do not need to reply to get the attachments and the risk lies with the person posting the message/attachments not the person downloading. You also dont have to queue up or wait to get access. The negative thing is that you dont get much of a say about whats posted.
An example of the supply and availability is http://www.newzbin.com/

I use astraweb as my news provider news.astraweb.com they are based in the states but I still get 150-180k/s download speed constatnt on my 1.5mb line. I use newsleecher www,newsleecher.com for my reader.. its far better than newzbin which I used before

I also use NewsLeecher and Usenetservers.com(15$/month for unlimited account) as provider. i get DL speed af 800-850kb/s with my 8mbit line. Register at newzbin.com and use that as a indexingservice. ITs much more easier to see what gets psoted in the groups. I mostly download HDTV(1080i) movies(15-25gb/a movie, but picture is SUPERB ;) )

wow how confusing. I don't really understand this whole newsgroup thing so ima just stick to DC++ but i would like to learn sometime as it looks faster and more reliable for things like films and tv series.

I tried DCCC+++++ but I wasn't a fan. These days I use BT and a bit of Binary News Reaper connected thru Telewest server.

Dc++ is the best you can get once you've learnt it, believe me.

DC++ is like spyware for me, It slows down your network connection and takes a huge CPU load. I don't use neither of them, IRC sometimes when I don't find something I want.
DC++ AKA Direct Connect, its OK but the RIAA and MPAA and all those ghey orgs tend to keep a big lookout for these! :(
