View Full Version : Cheapish gfx Card?
Thinking about buying a new gfx card cos if i go to ll3 and ur playing cs:s i think im going to struggle a bit, currently have a geforce 3 which does the job for most games with detail turned down a bit.
Read the post on here about ATi or Nvidia and a few of you said the 6600 GT is a good card and thats just about in my budget, but i was just wondering if there are any particular manufactures or different models which are better than others or u would recommend, or an entirely different card lol.
My current specs are:
Barton 2500+ (overclocked to 3200)
ASUS A7N8X deluxe (So needs to be AGP card)
512MB Corsair paired RAM
Geforce 3 ti 200
Any help would be great :)
Thanx

When you can spend the 6600 GT
I think you need that 1
I have the 9800 Pro but that was with a major deal
next time I'll get 50 of them

I got the same mobo as you and running a Barton 2800+ (non-overclocked)
I recommend the 6600GT AGP it plays CS:S fine.
The "Leadtek WinFast GeForce 6600 GT 128MB DDR3 TV-Out/DVI" is nice and fairly quite too. At about £130, not all bad.
I was hoping you would reply bullet, cos i saw ur post on the other thread so i was going to pm u and ask which card u bought exactly and if it was all working ok :) i will probably get that 1 but i have just dug out a magazine from a few weeks ago which has reviews of about 15 mid range gfx cards alot of them being the 6600GT so im going to have a little read through there b4 i make a final decision :)
Thanx for the help :)

yeah, i got the OcUK version of the 6600GT, but it turns out that in CustomPC magazine they gave the card I mentioned good marks and even gave it a Recommended Buy award for an AGP card.
Im going to have to look round on the net and see what i can get for cheap cos im a bit short of cash especially if im going to ll3 im going to need money, very tempted by the:
Gainward ultra/1960XP Golden Sample GLH (stupid name) but thats the one they said is fastest of the the 6600GT in custom pc but unfortunatly is quite expensive so might have to make a compramise and go for 1 a bit cheaper and overclock it :)

ATI is always cheaper.
My biggest regret in the world of PC buying was upgrading my Gforce 4200TI (that cost me around £150) to 6 months down the line, a Radeon 9800XT (At a cost of around £220) I've noticed little difference in perfomance apart from a lot of arsing around with drivers that I never used to have from my Gforce card. In future it's Nvidia all the way.
