Adobe took over Macromedia for about 3,4 billion dollar.. Adobe is known from their great graphical software photoshop, illustrator etc. Macromedia got his popularity from dreamweaver, coldfusion, fireworks etc.
Quite big news as they are very big companies. Adobe is now the biggest company in creating graphical software I think.
Just thouht this might interest some ppl. I don't know further details tho.
Here's a link for some extra info:

who's going to survive GoLive or DreamWeaver ? Illustrator or Freehand ?
I think they bought them to get the Flash technology as the SVG format wasn't really good.

why is this a bad thing? they can just do lots of research and stuff and then create a super duper 1337 software =D

I think the rumours are that Freehand and Fireworks will cease to exist, but that Dreamweaver will continue, ergo GoLive will also cease to exist.
One saving grace is that Microsoft had been rumoured to take over previously so this is better. Means I wont need to keep buying both packages, as it'll all just come in one.

I would buy it too if I were rich because great software made by good developers deserve some gratitude.

Well I dont have to buy it yet because I can make use of the Uni's copies. I'm certainly not rich but as I'm using it for professional as well as personal reasons I would want to own a copy, no funny business, plus I can claim back VAT on it

I don't have a problem with buying these packages at all. What I have a problem with is the incredibly exorbitant prices they charge.
