View Full Version : My New PC
Now some of you might know that I have had problems with my CS recently.. check out my scores.. shocking! so I decided after troubleshooting everything on my current one and coming up to exactly Zero answers thought I'd build me a new one.. waddya think?
Abit AA8 DURAMAX (LGA775) PCI-Express Motherboard
Corsair 1GB DDR2 XMS2-5400UL Extreme Low Latency TwinX (2x512MB)
HIS Excalibur ATI Radeon X850 XT ICEQII TURBO 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express)
Intel Pentium 4 640 "LGA775 Prescott" 3.2GHz (800FSB) with HT Technology
Samsung TSH-552B 16 x 16 Dual Layer DVD±RW ReWriter (Black)
Sony DDU1612 DVD-ROM (Black)
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 NCQ 250GB 6B250SO SATA 16MB Cache
Tagan TG480-U01 480W ATX2.0 SLi Compliant Silent PSU
OcUK Value Floppy Drive - Black
Lian-Li PC-6070B Silent MIDI Tower
Now that lot came to £1200.00 so heres hoping its pretty good and might last me another year...
Before you all say it.. decided not to go SLi as I dont really need it and a PCI-E 850XT HIS ICEQ is a beautiful card and more than I think i'll ever need..
Thanks

emmmm i ll say no ! with 1200 pounds u can get an amd64bit with new core(venice) which will keep u up-to-date for more than 2 years.
just my 2 cents :P

Go AMD and you save pennies too and you can use non-DDR2 RAM which is cheaper...
Also do you need both DVD writer and DVD player? Can't you scavenge one of your old machine? Same with the FDD- just rip one off an old machine.
Nice case :D
I was going AMD64 but have had AMD all my life and just wanted to try a P4 for a change... if you never try you never know :) And I wanted DDR2 memory as it is considerably faster...

Check out the the tests on the extreme eddition p4's with ddr2 compared to amd fx-55 with regular ddr - http://www.gamepc.com/labs/print_content.asp?id=p4346ee .
Big difference?

I got the same PC Case :)
Hehehehe...
Now all you need is a good mouse and mousepad.. to upgrade your score a little..
And oh yeah, good internet connection helps too :)
Sorry Pile but figures dont really man much to me.. didnt put together a PC for the figures put it together for stability and general useage... which I think I have done.. and theres always room for a little overclocking...
Is the Motherboard SLI ready??
My new SLI box is the bollox!
Sorry Jackal no.. SLI seems only to be for AMD chips atm.. and to be honest I dont need it..

Agreed
AMD = GAmes
Intel = Work related Apps.
Agree all you like but im afraid my machine is not just a games machine.. and again like I said it will run CS and anything new with ease, and since I change my PC every year or so if I dont get on with P4 then I will go AMD64...

all tests and statistics are made for someone and payed by someone so u can never trust them, only thing that works are what owther users say!!
and a mousepad u say... by that u mean paying a million for a piece of glass that cost the company all put together 3 pounds to make..... on a bad day..
nah I stick with my warner brothers old style mouse pad (costed 2.5 pounds btw) and my good MX510.. tho the best mouse I ever had was a Logitech wireless ball mouse... the good old one that is!!
no need for fancy hi tech stuff, thats just everybody gone mad!!

LOL :) What's Hi-Tech? In the middle ages.. the Crossbow was Hi-Tech!! :)
good mouse pads cost 10 to 20 pounds.. no worries there..
My Razer Diamondback costs 69 euro's.. ( that's under 15 pounds or something)
Why buy a state-of-the-art-mind-boggling-ninja-uber-super-overpowered-killer-dazzling-drool-speedy-ultracool video card..
and stick to a simple mouse and mousepad? it just sounds a little silly to me :)
Here's what I got for the same price:
AMD Athlon™ 64 4000+ Processor
Microsoft® Windows® XP Home Edition
Mainboard , GB LAN, IEEE 1394, SATA, RAID
1024MB DDR 400 RAM (PC3200) Memory
300GB Serial ATA (150Mb/s) Ultra Fast HDD
2x 128MB nVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT - SLI
SONY 16x DVD-ROM (40x CD-ROM)
SONY 16x Dual Layer DVD-RW (R/W all standard formats)*
Audigy 2 ZS platinum sound card
Internet Ready V.92 56Kbps data/fax/voice modem
Network Ready integrated 10/100/1000 Ethernet
Logitech Cordless Keyboard & Rechargeable Mouse
FREE Microsoft Works 8.0
FREE Pinnacle Studio 9 SE Video Editing Software
3 Year On Site Parts & Labour Warranty
It is the business! Not just a games machine but a good work horse too.

because its all in ur head... u wont notice the difference on a steelpad or a normal onecolor mouse mat on a public server... I refuse to believe that onyone have internet connections that fast!!

No, it's not :) Actually, it's quite simple... do you still play in 640x480? Nope?
And why not? you are probably playing in 1024x768... Why should your mouse resolution be left behind. This high mouse resolution doesn't come to live on a normal pad.. even a cheap mouse can do a lot better on a decent mousepad.
It has nothing to do with your connection speed. Redudant, unprecise and clumbsy movement will decrease with a precision mouse and mousepad.
You can still be a brilliant player without all that fancy stuff.. that's true though.. it's just a little small edge for the real geeks, like me.. But i bet you would play differently on my old father mousepad and mouse.. then with my current mouse and mousepad :D
Boys boys boys... was just a post about my new PC specs.. not a heated discussion over mouses and mouse pads.... calm down... Deep breaths and each to their own on mice.. nuff said

Whoops! My fault! I got a little off-topic there... :(
(on topic)
BTW, good thing you didn't go for the SLI stuff.. If you pick for some "new" technology too quickly.. you could end up.. betting on the wrong horse..
Like i had with the RIMM memory modules a while ago, when PC800 RIMM was "new" and cool :)
