Server renewal

As many of you know, the 1.6 server is due for renewal this month and I have been looking at various options.

The current server is a P4 2.8 with 1 gig memory. It was just about able to do the job a year ago but with VAC/VAC2 logging putting an increased load on the cpu and a number of the better maps being quite cpu intensive, it really is no longer up to the job.

Now the good news.

We will be moving over to a dual 3.2 xeon with 2 gig memory during this month.

This will involve a new IP address so keep an eye on the website for details. There will be a redirect for a week or two but after that, the old 1.6 server will be closed.

Reserved slot price will not be increasing to cover the increased expense of this server.

The server will be run fresh. It will take a few days before all maps and plugins are uploaded to the new server. During this period you may experience playability at a level lower than you would expect from LA.

few days? Will DD transfer all files from the old FTP server to the new FTP server or from his own connection to the new FTP server? It depends what DD's upload is :)

Anyway glad to here the good news, I'm sure this will be a great server and more expensive for DD I suggest.

Please read posts before posting replies, it clearly says that res slot price will not be increased. As for affording that, leave that to Mr Money Magician DD :)

I would say so, slots for source server will bring in extra money to cover new server at a guess

Slots on the source server will go much of the way. Up to now, the 1.6 server has been subsidising the source server. That will stop from now on (well, shortly anyway).

An update is that the IP will not be changing. This means the server will go down for half a day whilst the new box replaces the old one.

I cant see this being too much of an Issue with a Dual 3.2 Xeon. As far as i can see we will start by running it clean and then add bits, it should have plenty to spare. Good considering DoDSource will be released soon :)

Wasnt actually, it was Dual AMD 1700+s. The only reason it seemed better is because CS1.5 used far less resources and was far less buggy server side than 1.6!

They actually took my money over 5 weeks ago. Fustrating as hell really and I will be pushing for a time extension.

Last email I got was that the server is built and ready to be transported to the telehouse. However, the person who normally does that has had a car accident and is waiting for replacement transport.

You will all know when the new server is up as it will be stuck on defaults initially, AWPs will be allowed and it will follow a few hours down time.

great news about awp bout time it was back on the server

no doubt there will be a big debate about it after a day or 2 but fight to keep it on

awp can be a big difference on the ultra 1 sided maps like aztec etc..
