View Full Version : New mobo/Microphone problem, help please.
Grateful for any help on this peeps.:11:
Fried Mobo so had to rebuild.New board is an ASRock K7S41 with a 3 ghz Sempron and a gig of memory. My Graphics card is my old G4 Ti 4200.
Problem is the the onboard sound AC'97 Audio.....can I buggery get the Mic to work any better than a whisper, latest driver is installed all mutes are off,all volumes up to full wack tried setting it through speech recognition,Sounds and Audio devices,Speech in Control panel and all with the same whispering results. It isn't set on six speakers which cancels the mic either.
I even tried installing a sound card but this gave the same result.I've been on loads of forums with no luck,so I'm relying on you guys....so no pressure...hehe
Thanks for looking :)
Open SOund Volume Control Panel, change the display to recording, check the Mic volume is all the way up, there may be a button under the mic volume setting called advanced or something, this generally allows the mic to be set on Boost mode which would greatly improve the sound volume. Check it out
Already tried that thanks Zeph...might resort to buying a USB headset ...I've spent about 10 hours trying to sort this out...lol

I love Asrock boards, they are so cheap and cheerfull with fantastic options for the price. There is a way of sorrting this, but I can't remember how atm. Don't give up hope though, I will probably remember tomorrow when the hang over kicks in :)
If it's the hangover that helps...Drink more man!!!!. :p

Check if the connections are wired up properly. I had to reconnect my front panel because someone in the factory doesnt know their left from right- it's all mislabelled...
I'm too much of a lily-livered git to flash my BIOS,so I'll just keep peeing about until I get chance to buy a USB set.....A question though-will a USB headset use same audio settings re drivers etc or totally different because my audio settings don't show sound recording settings at all,it says that they are not installed.I know that they should be in Accessories-Entertainment -sound recorder but they're nowhere therefore does this mean there isn't the correct shit installed to utilise a mic or are my jumpers wrong. :(
Thanks anyway guys.
Now I've got sound recorder but no change in mic performance.in the voice recording properties box the advanced button is ghosted out...aw bollocks.
In the volume control have u gone to the file menu and changed the displayed controls to recording?

AC97 is no good at all..
You run out of audio channels if you use 5.1 sound and mic.
I've seen another problem with another integrated audio system where the normal output was just too low to come clearly and good out of an amplifier. (e.g. if he put back the amplifier to CD or radio.. the whole street would wake up)
My brother has a terratec sound card with a logitech z680 speaker set. Now his mic channel got busted somewhere during usage. Since we wanted to keep the sound card at the time we bought a logitech USB mic thingy... Worked liked a charm..
I would definately go for the USB solution.. unless you want to buy a whole new soundcard (they are getting cheaper and cheaper too these days)
Hope this info is usefull for you.. Cheers

the problem with most AC97 systems is that the sound processing unit does not support the 2-way communcation and therefor it set mic priority low, there is a jumper on the mobo or u need to disable it in bios but no matter what u will need to disable the AC97 sound and install another.. even a cheap creative 128 PCI have the needed specs to use ingame mic...
omg that sounded geeky.....

I have a Sennheinser PC135 USB headset which totally roxs, it also was its own in build sound card (which is nice). Bit pricey thou ~£60
