is this 1 of the games where you build tech trees from like inventing the wheel up to a tank etc, so in battles you can have medival catapluts working side by side with tanks?

Is anyone else unable to get any native units? I can pay for them but they just wont appear
Jo3_Pinneapples[CYM]

have you made a trade post in the native area?
and make the rally point some where not to far but still away from the trade post
sometimes if i 'rescue' a native they dont appear

I'm not a huge fan of AOE games, but I gave this one a try. I like the 'Home City' feature as it gives a bit of an interesting twist to the game, but being set in North America seems to limit its scope. They seemed to neatly sidestep the awkward issues of the era (murder of Native Americans, slavery etc), but I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing - from a gameplay perspective it relieves the player of any burden of having to worry about that kind of thing, but from a moral point of view it further romanticises the people of the era and the acts they carried out. But then it never claims to be historically accurate.
With the Native American troops, you can make the siege units but those other ones appear to be scaled down so much in the world that you can't select them (they cast tiny, tiny shadows). Either that, or they're underneath the world and the visible bit is the top of a spear/axe.
Anyway, I hear that the demo is actually based on out-of-date code, so things could be quite different in the final game (gameplay-wise. The bugs like the sideways priest will be gone. I hope).

Hmm well you've persuaded me to download the Demo now. For future reference, THIS (http://download.microsoft.com/download/d/7/3/d7348fe3-d498-4e13-96c6-3da92e8f0c62/aoe3trial.exe) place is a much faster Download than the original link (I'm getting 225k compared to 8k for the original)

Got totally addicted to this :) i wasnt sure if it was worth buying before but now ive played the demo its definatly on my buy list.
I like the home city idea where u get experienece and being able to ship out supplies and troops from your city thats a very good idea, especially with being able to buy extra cards and create your own deck of cards for the shipments.
But if the new CIV comes out soon i might have to pick between the two :S

never got into the CIV games as they are/where turn based and those sorts of games always left me wishing htey wher RTS instead
