The mouse-in-3D-space thing is cool, but I do wonder how well it will play. Mind you Im not a fan of console controllers since the SNES/Megadrive at all. Too complicated.

If you watch the trailer thing you'll see some very weird "real time" movements, which I think excludes disabled people a bit. ;)

Nintendo is dieing, full stop.

And I hope it dies a horrible painful death.

it will suck compared to xbox360.. actually, it will suck.

I disagree. I think the controler will promote inovation in games developers. It will make them think about the possibilities that a controler with six degrees of freedom will open up. I hope it will encorage developers to think about gameplay rather than eye candy.

We need games developers that push the boundaries and think out side the box rather than churning out the same bullshit time after time. I sincerely hope to christ this pays off and the whole industry takes note so it can move forward rather than continual jumps sideways.

This is of course in an ideal world :-D

hummm..... i remember nintendo trying something like this before and it never made the shelfs outside japan
i hope for their sake they make a more conventional controller avalible too

ive heard that u will be able to plug other Nintendo controlers into it. This is primarily because the entire Nintendo back catalogue will be available for download onto the revolution... for a small charge no doubt :-P

I think they designed it to appeal to women more. Especialy if it has a rumble pack.

Fair play to them for having the guts to try something different and new but its ugly and horrible and in a market already dominated by sony and now the xbox the revolution is just going to flop, can see it going the same way the dreamcast did when it came out

i hate nintendo, i think they suck, i thought sega were much better. their games are shit too, all orientated around under 5 year kids. i agree with zeph. its sony only for me. hope microsoft die, and take their shit software and tcpa crap with them

the N64 contoller was the controller to rule them all!

yeah it rocked, unfortunatly the build quality was crap, even on the official ones. the analog sticks on them just died after 6 months of regular use leaving a controller with a 90% deadzone which is utterly useless

Rogue
16th September '05, 21:08
Using some talcum powder on my analogue stick worked a right treat.

Find a joke, I dare you.

Playstation is rubbish as almost all games are available for the PC, and I see it as paying ALOT of money for a 2nd computer. No point.

Nintendo at least has original games. You can't beat Mario games and can't get them elsewhere.

As far as the control pad is concerned though, doesn't look to great. Small wireless controllers like that will be great for the party games with 4 players, but as Jo3 says, hope they bring out a "normal" one as well.

Nintendo don't rip you off like Microsoft, and are pretty dedicated to their games. Just unlucky that noone backs them anymore.

there are some points that george has said that i dont agree with

Nintendo DO rip you off, i can remember having to pay £40-50 for SNES games ( when it first came out) and at the same time only paying £20-30 for games on the SegaMD (also the price at its first release)

loads of companys still make games for Nintendo but it costs them more as they still have to apply for the license to be able to sell you a game that will work on the Nintendo systems
some of you will remember how codemasters got taken to court when they tryed to release micromachines on the nes/snes
the playstaionX was a good system in its time and the games i played on it you could and still cant get for the PC, or if you can get them they are a poor substitute
but if sony force the blu-ray onto the PS3 they will kill it out right as there is on need for blu-ray atm and its still too expencive to justive(SP?) its need in a console
ffs what sort of games are going to need that much space ?? ok FF1000 might but ffs there isnt a market for it yet wait till the PS4 is out first
microsoft i think did very well with the Xbox and the whole giving money back after droping the price of the console

Looks like I was totally wrong mate. My bad. :bitchslap

Must admit, this is the first time I've been tempted to buy a Playstation. Never been amazed by the XBox tbh when I played on it, Halo 2 online just can't live up to CS. Alot of it is down to personal choice as well. I have every Nintendo since NES including handhelds, so gotta get the Revolution. But I may buy the PS3, depending on the money.

Problem is, now I'm getting older, jobs and women especially get in the way of as much gaming as you'd like and for me, I still have shed loads of games to complete on PC & Gamecube so I'm foozballed at the moment.

That's what developer's need to get sorted before blu-ray etc... How to stop women from restricting your gameplay.

Rogue

According to the new controllers trailer women can enjoy too.

Having read all of Satoru Iwata's speech regarding Nintendo's strategy with the Revolution and the direction of the company in general, I can't help but agree that this (not just the controller, the whole approach) is exactly what the games industry needs in order to evolve and survive. I'll be getting my hands on a Revolution as soon as it comes out in the UK.

I also predict that the next next-gen consoles (i.e. after ps3/xbox360) will incorporate several of the Revolution's features. It happened before with joypads/shoulder buttons/rumble paks/analogue sticks/trigger buttons!

Nintendo arent going anywhere, they were the only company out of the three to actually make a profit on the console sales. The revolution controller is amazing, it will make games simpler to cotrol, which will bring back people who thought controlling games was too hard.

There are ports on the revolution to plug in gamecube controllers if you hate it that much :p

and you can also turn the revolution controller sideways and it becomes a NES controller! Useful for the back catalogue of games that will be downloadable.

and all this stuff about the other consoles bing immensly 100x more powerful than last generation is rubbish. xbox uses 3 power pc processors (think old mac processors) and a custom graphics card, built on current generation graphics technology.

Even the PS3 wont be that good, sure cell is a beautiful architecture, but i wont be that powerul until the technology matures and mistakes are learned from.

if you look at the older generation, sony and microsoft did this hype before they released their consoles. Truth was, they couldnt push half the polygons they said they could do.

btw, i love Ninty, they will one day rise again to their rightful spot as supreme game+console giants.

Now after watching that video i also changed my mind, this actually does look pretty damn good, you could actualy play frm the kitchen while making a cupper. But seriously i will consider buying this.

And just to stick up for Dreamcasts, they were ahead of there time, graphics and gameplay.

Just bought this month's Nintendo Magazine and it has full review of Revolution.

There are NO ports for controllers anywhere on it. Everything will be done via the wireless remote control controller things, including turning the console on/off. Great for lazy arses.

Apparently, the NES library will be available for download, but not the other systems.

Look the mag up, great info on how everything works etc....

Does it not have Cube controller ports?

Right here.

yeah, the revolution looks like more of an alternative to pc gaming

the xbox360 and ps3 are just trying to be better than pc's at games, which aint never gonna happen

this is definetly something to buy if you enjoy gaming, but dont like sitting at your pc all day :p

well ive just been watching the video for this and i say go on nintendo they always where good in my opinion and frankly if they can combine technology like this it is going to make gaming more involved
nintendo always come up with some crazy idea to stay in the market and thier controllers have always been pretty easy to use so good look to them i say and i'll certainly want to try this controller out :)

I hope so much that nintendo can stay in the games console market and dont end up like sega only producing games :(. Now Sega have gone nintendo is the only hope of anything inovative happening because if they go will we end up with the mindless sequals of games on sonys systems.

:rant2: It might only be me but im really fed up with everyone going on about fifa 2006 or something else 3 or bla bla bla 5. I wish they would just make some more interesting games. I admit there are occasions where interesting games have been released for PS but not that often.

Im really looking forward to the revoloution hopefully it will do well and maybe get some more people on board with nintendo :) The controller looks excellent nice to see something different and should make gaming a good experience on the revolution. And obviously nintendo will do an excellent job at making games to use the controller to its full :)

I still have my dreamcast use it quite often, was a totally underated machine and put the final nail in the coffin for sega which is a shame because most people dont really realise the quality of its games and the fact that there were so many amazing games to choose from. When you list the games on the Dremacast and see that so many of them were amazing its hard to see how it failed so badly.

Also still have my sega saturn set up which is amazing shame most of the bestgames never made it outside japan.

The annoying thing with Nintendo is that it's mega popular in USA and Asia, but not in Europe. This is down to games not becoming available at the same time/price, and ADVERTISING

I have seen PS3 and XBOX360 adverts on telly, I've seen people in the streets sticking PSPs in my face wearing Playstation Coats etc.... but you never see anything Nintendo. Even my local GAME store has stopped stocking Gamecube stuff already.

It's not on. They should be so much more popular over here. And Nintendo games are more sociable, more multiplayer, bridging the gap between sad peeps who lock themselves in their room and gamers who can actually communicate with the world.

I still use mine at work, Virtua Tennis 2 being the most popular game there.
Are you using your Dreamcast upside down cos it sometimes reboots or cuts out for no good reason? I had the same prob. after a little poking about I found that if you remove the cover, then locate the 'door open' switch to the top right of the CD-ROM unit (little black switch that is operated by a lever that is pushed back when the lid is closed).
Use a cottonbud or matchstick or similar to jam this into open position and apply a few drops of superglue, when dry remove the cotton bud, matchstick or whatever you used. Re-assemble your Dreamcast and your machine should work fine, only draw back is that you need to turn off the power whenever you want to change games as the CD-ROM will continue to spin even with the lid open.

It seems that over the years of usage that little lever on the 'door open' switch wears down over the years and the vibration of the drive can then cause a contact problem.

Hope this helps you Janthrax

Yeah BM is right with that problem, its a know problem with most dreamcasts now as they are all getting pretty old, it also usually works if you tilt it a bit not completely upsidedown but say put a game case under the front of back and see if that helps.

Dreamcast rox

But then again, you might as well just plug a normal GameCube controller into your Revolution (or whatever they end up calling it)...
