October 27, 2005, 4:10 pm ยท Alfred Reynolds (contact@valvesoftware.com)

Half-Life 2: Lost Coast is now available for play for all Half-Life 2 owners.

Half-Life 2: Lost Coast, a single-player level custom-created to showcase High-Dynamic Range lighting (HDR) in the Source engine, is available now to all owners of HL2. As a technology showcase, Half-Life 2: Lost Coast's system requirements are very high. During installation, Steam will prompt you if your system does not meet the recommended configuration. We hope you enjoy it.

Short but sweet. Looks purdy but to be honest I'm quite pissed off. If they had enabled that kind of HDR in the game itself that would be great but on here it's just like 'look what we can do... but you cant have!'
Lovely effects though and the church is astounding!

Nice level, nice demonstration as to what they can do tbh :)

In regards to why they didnt incorperate it in HL2 was because it had such high system specs, aroud 50% of the people that bought it wouldnt have been able to run it...

After playing that level, i decided to start playing HL2 again, after completing it on Medium difficulty last time, doing it on Hard this time, on ravenholm atm :) gfx up even more with 2x AA on and it's sweet AS! :D

So what spec PC would it take to run this game at FULL settings?

Just ordered a new system with 4400 Dual Core and 7800GTX (can only afford the one though so no SLI) - will that be up to it? I hope so!!

My 6800GT runs it at pretty much full settings. Does chug slightly but not badly.

A 7800 should find it a breeze I would think.

9800 pr0 ran it fine on full settings apart from AA which had 2 be turned off or else it would jitter way 2 much!

My x300 ran it pretty well considering its only a Mobility with 64MB of RAM and i only have 512MB of RAM.
